
The 136th annual HVFA Convention & Parades returns to Lake George
A weekend of parades, live music and fireworks is coming to the North Country in mid-June.
The Hudson Valley Firefighters' Association Convention is heading to Lake George for their annual convention, which this year will take place June 11th through June 14th. Dozens of fire departments from up and down the Hudson Valley, from the outer suburbs of New York City to the lower Adirondacks.
Prior to the official opening of the convention, a golf outing takes place at Cronin's Golf Resort in Warrensburg on Wednesday, June 11th. Following a memorial service, training and an education seminar early on Thursday, firefighters will take to Lake George on a cruise on the "Adirondac" as part of a celebration of 50 years of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association's Ladies Auxiliary.
The first of two parades takes place on Friday with the Mardi Gras parade. Before the parade, Ten Most Wanted will perform at a block party taking place at 6pm on the stage in Shepards Park. The parade steps off at 7pm down Canada Street.
This year's theme is "Christmas in June".
Then the formal Dress Parade steps off Saturday at 1pm, featuring dozens of organizations marching down Canada Street in their firefighter uniforms. After the parade, Swamp Frog will perform in Shepards Park, followed by trophies presented to the best of the Dress Parade.
Fireworks will cap the night following the entertainment and trophy ceremonies. The parades, live music and fireworks are open to the public and are free to attend.
