Ding-Dong-Ditchers Bring Midnight Mayhem to Rensselaer County

East Greenbush Police Video via Facebook

Ringing doorbells and running away. What has this world come to.

I remember this was one of the many ways we used to entertain ourselves growing up in the Capital Region. In my neighborhood it was called 'Ring and Run'. Let's break it down in steps:

1. Wait until night time

2. Approach someone's front door

3. Ring the doorbell

4. Run away

5. Watch from afar when the victim opens the door

6. Take in their reaction

7. Belly laugh like you've just seen a sidesplitting set by Carrot Top

Back then we didn't have to worry about Ring cams. Today it's a whole new game and if you choose to participate, you are completely gambling your anonymity.

Police in East Greenbush say some late-night pranksters have been vexing the area of Bloomingdale Ave and Petalas Drive for the last few months. It's not known if the individuals are acting on their own or if its part of a larger ding-dong-ditch crime family.

A pair of suspects have been caught on video and police are looking to identify them. In case you're wondering, yes - this counts as trespass, harassment and disorderly conduct.

If you have any info on the alleged culprits, East Greenbush police would like to hear from you. For your protection, all tips can be reported anonymously at 518-479-2525.
