Chainsaw, Clown Mask, and a Whole Lot of Questions in Cohoes

Bizarre encounter leads to felony charges

A man in a clown mask and a blue football jersey took a stroll down Lancaster Street last Thursday—but it wasn’t the outfit that raised eyebrows. It was the battery-powered chainsaw he was allegedly waving around that got the police involved.

According to Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin, the 34-year-old Albany man wasn’t exactly eager to explain himself:

We don’t know for sure why he chose to just start walking down the street that way.

Someone confronted the man after spotting him peeking into cars. That’s when he reportedly revved up the drama—and maybe the chainsaw. Whether it was on or not remains a mystery. “They’re quieter than gas ones,” Waldin added.

The confrontation ended when the bystander tackled the suspect. No injuries, just a strange afternoon.

The man, later identified as Craig Wolcott of Albany, was arrested with a chainsaw and a knuckle knife. He now faces three felonies and is due back in court May 21.
