Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs is proposing the creation of a registry for vacant storefronts to reduce blight and connect interested buyers with property owners. The idea stems from the city's Advisory Council on Nightlife Economy and would require approval from the Albany Common Council. The registry would allow the city to follow up on vacant properties and potentially facilitate sales. Other suggestions from the Advisory Council include using empty storefronts for temporary pop-up businesses and imposing annual registration fees for owners of vacant commercial spaces.
