Developers hoping to build a 97,000 square foot ice rink and event center received conditional approval from Schenectady's Planning Commission, according to the Daily Gazette. It would be located on the land between Rivers Casino and Mohawk Harbor.
The planned arena would be the new home for Union Hockey. Games would hold a total of 2,200 people, while other events could hold about 3,500 using the arena floor.
No timeframe has been announced as to when it will be built, as there are pending issues dealing with parking and increased traffic. At the next meeting, developers are expected to present renderings of what the new building is expected to look like.
