20 Outstanding Women!
We found the women who go above and beyond to make their communities a better place to live. Those unsung heroes in our neighborhoods – the ones who are already busy, yet find the time to give back in big ways to help others.

Today's Outstanding Woman is,
Mary McGarvey of Latham
Mary is a woman who understands that healing takes many forms. As the leader of Night Out for You (NOFY), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cancer patients with meaningful reprieves from the weight of treatment, Mary has made it her mission to ensure that joy, dignity, and human connection remain accessible to those facing one of life's most difficult journeys.
Through NOFY, cancer patients are gifted fully planned Experiences from spa days and concerts to theatrical performances and water park outings each one carefully tailored to bring lightness and celebration into lives that are often consumed by hardship. Mary is deeply involved in the planning of every Experience, going above and beyond to ensure that each recipient feels truly special and genuinely seen.
When NOFY co-founder and Mary's cherished longtime friend, Kate Hockford, passed away, Mary carried the organization forward with grace and unwavering determination. Rather than allowing grief to diminish the work, she channeled it into purpose continuing to honor Kate's vision and ensuring that her legacy lives on in every Experience provided. Over the course of more than 200 Experiences, Mary has missed only a handful of send-offs, a testament to her extraordinary commitment.
Her dedication extends to the volunteers who make NOFY possible as well. Mary regularly hosts volunteer appreciation events, cultivating a culture of gratitude and ensuring that those who give their time feel as valued as those they serve.
All of this she accomplishes while working a full-time job and raising a family a reflection of her remarkable strength, selflessness, and depth of character. Mary does not simply run a nonprofit. She keeps a promise to Kate, to her community, and to every cancer patient who deserves a moment of joy.
