We found the women who go above and beyond to make their communities a better place to live. Those unsung heroes in our neighborhoods – the ones who are already busy, yet find the time to give back in big ways to help others.

Today's Outstanding Woman is,

Denyse Mackey of Albany

My granddaughter Payton asked if I would write this up for her, as she wanted to nominate Ms. Denyse.

Payton and Ms. Denyse have a special bond. Warren Mackey was her husband and died while waiting for a new heart. Payton has received two heart transplants. After Warren’s passing, she founded the Warren and Denyse Mackey Foundation.

Payton loves that Ms. Denyse has the Cardiac Kids meet up annually (this year is the third) at UAlbany, where they get to meet the men’s basketball coach, Coach Dan, and the players. Then they go on the court, where Ms. Denyse presents a big check to the American Heart Association. What Payton doesn’t know is that Ms. Denyse has also set up a program for women’s health, where if women get their annual mammogram, they can receive a $50 gift card, or that the foundation also has a youth program where children can apply for a scholarship to attend camps and different sports organizations for free.
