Local artist pays tribute to Erie Canal
Local artist Hannah Williams is set to unveil a new mural titled "Rooted at Motion" in downtown Schenectady at the Amtrak station lot. The mural, which incorporates historic sites in Schenectady, features the NY Central Hudson train, the aqueduct, native plants, and industrial influences on transportation in the city. Williams expressed gratitude for the community support in Schenectady and highlighted the importance of doing justice to the history in her public art projects. The mural is expected to be completed next week in time for the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal, in partnership with Amtrak and Electric City Barn. Williams shared that the mural's location previously bore the words "Susan is a Pinhead," which inspired the name of the now-closed restaurant "Pinhead Susan's."
