Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Plays Final Albany & Nashville Shows
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been the soundtrack to many of our lives, whether we realize it or not. Regardless of what genre you prefer, at one point you’ve probably heard a ‘Dirt Band’ classic and didn’t even now it. Their wide variety of songs have been heard on all radio formats, like ‘Mr. Bojangles’ (written by Jerry Jeff Walker of Oneonta, New York), ‘Cosmic Cowboy’, ’Fire In The Sky’, ‘Make A Little Magic’, and ‘An American Dream’ (a song most everyone knows, once they hear it again).
If you are a Country Music fan, you’ll instantly know the radio favorite ‘Fishin’ In The Dark’, and hits like ‘Dance Little Jean’ ‘Long Hard Road (The Sharecopper’s Dream)’ ‘Baby’s Got A Hold On Me’ and ‘Modern Day Romance’. Of course, they are also known for their Americana/Bluegrass projects like the Grammy Winning ‘Will The Circle Be Unbroken,’ which produced three volumes.
Other noteworthy tracks include: ‘Workin’ Man (Nowhere To Go)’, ‘I’ve Been Lookin’, ‘Partners, Brothers and Friends’, ‘High Horse’, ‘Stand A Little Rain’, ‘Home Again In My Heart’ ‘I Love Only You’, and the hidden gem ‘And So It Goes’ with John Denver.
In 2026, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is celebrating 60 years with a new album and a final run of shows, with a stop at the Egg in Albany, NY (April 19). On May 13, the iconic band plays the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville- the actual 60th anniversary, to the day, of the band’s formation. Let’s hope induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame follows.
Fun Fact: Jeff Hana, of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, co-wrote and originally recorded 'Bless The Broken Road'. A song that would become a wedding classic for Rascal Flatts.
