High on mushrooms, hikers thought their friend was dead.
Two hikers in the Adirondacks had a wild trip — in more ways than one — when they called 911 from Cascade Mountain, convinced their friend had died. Thankfully, it was just the mushrooms talking.
According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, the hikers had taken hallucinogenic mushrooms and became disoriented while hiking the popular High Peaks trail in North Elba. They told a summit steward they were lost and that their hiking partner was dead.
Spoiler alert: he wasn’t.
The supposedly 'deceased' hiker later called authorities himself — very much alive and not injured. A forest ranger escorted the confused pair down the mountain and to a hospital. Their friend was brought back to the group’s campsite, where the three were safely reunited.
No injuries were reported, just a big misunderstanding and, likely, a very awkward reunion.
