20 Outstanding Women!
We found the women who go above and beyond to make their communities a better place to live. Those unsung heroes in our neighborhoods – the ones who are already busy, yet find the time to give back in big ways to help others.

Today's Outstanding Woman is,
Kelly Brown-Mateja of Colonie
Kelly is a staple in her community with a warm smile, welcoming personality and vast knowledge of all things Colonie. Through her professional work and personal volunteer efforts Kelly demonstrates her care and love for her community and all its members, from the very young to the senior population. She formerly worked with the Town of Colonie, the Colonie Senior Services Centers and currently works with the New York State Office for the Aging as well as the Office of Children and Family Services.
Kelly’s volunteer resume is even more impressive include years of involvement with the Colonie Central School District, the Shaker Heritage Society Board of Directors, and 9 years as the Crossings 5K Challenge Race Volunteer Coordinator. Additionally, she created the Albany Running Mamas group on Facebook which encourages women to take time for themselves and in 2012 she created the Morning of Kindness. An amazing endeavor that started as Random Acts of Kindness around the Capital Region during the holidays with her family that has transformed into an annual December event that connects more than 1,000 donors and volunteers with local nonprofits.
Every year this event allows volunteers to sign up to spread kindness within a specific local cause. Volunteers can sign up to deliver meals to the homeless, provide supplies to abandoned pets, deliver snacks to families with ill children in the hospital, serve food to the hungry, collect and deliver coats to refugees, sing songs to seniors with dementia, and just spread kindness to everyone they meet.
