Today's Outstanding Woman is,
Denise Murphy McGraw of Niskayuna
Denise Murphy McGraw is a remarkable leader and advocate who has dedicated nearly 30 years of service to the Junior League of Schenectady & Saratoga Counties and the wider community. Here’s a concise summary of her contributions:
As president of the Junior League, Denise co-founded the award-winning Operation Back to School (OBTS), a program that has provided essential school supplies to students in Schenectady and Saratoga counties for over 20 years. She also plays a key role in administering Distributing Discrete Dignity, which provides feminine hygiene products to food pantries and community organizations, and launched Kids in the Kitchen, an initiative aimed at combating childhood obesity by teaching children and families how to eat healthy on a budget. Additionally, Denise is the co-host and producer of Community Conversations, a public affairs television program that highlights local voices and organizations making a difference.
Denise also serves on several boards, including the Irish American Heritage Museum and the Hudson Valley Community College Humanities Advisory Council, among others, where she works to strengthen the Capital Region. Professionally, Denise has focused on advocating for better access to mental health and substance abuse care, creating economic opportunities, and supporting the arts by ensuring state funding for regional theaters like Proctors and the Palace Theatre.
Denise's extensive work in community service and advocacy has made her a vital champion of the Capital Region, and she is highly deserving of recognition as one of B95’s 20 Outstanding Women.
