We found the women who go above and beyond to make their communities a better place to live. Those unsung heroes in our neighborhoods – the ones who are already busy, yet find the time to give back in big ways to help others.

Today's Outstanding Woman is,

Roberta Sandler of Delmar

Roberta Sandler is the kind of leader who does not wait to be asked. She sees a need, builds a solution, and then continues showing up day after day to ensure that solution works for real families in real circumstances. As a founding Co-Director of Grassroot Givers, Roberta has spent years quietly and consistently improving lives across the Capital Region, side by side with her longtime partner in this mission, Mary Partridge-Brown.

Together, Roberta and Mary built Grassroot Givers into a trusted and deeply respected community resource. Roberta's contributions have been foundational from developing the operational systems that allow the organization to function with dignity and efficiency, to cultivating the referral partnerships that connect families to clothing, essential household items, and stabilizing support. Her attention to detail ensures that every family receives what they truly need: properly fitting, seasonally appropriate items chosen with care and respect.

Roberta leads with compassion and high standards in equal measure. She supports staff and volunteers with patience and clarity, and possesses a natural gift for making every person whether a colleague or a community member walking through the door for the first time feel valued, safe, and genuinely cared for. Her steady presence is the kind that holds an organization together even in the most challenging of times.

That steadiness has been tested personally as well. Following a serious medical emergency that required an extended leave of absence, Roberta remains committed to returning in a part-time capacity because this mission is not simply her work. It is her calling.

Roberta Sandler is the definition of an unsung hero, and her decades of dedicated partnership have helped build something that will serve the Capital Region for years to come.
