The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany has had 10 bishops prior to O'Connell

Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, according to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Mark O’Connell, auxiliary bishop of Boston, has been appointed the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Albany. O’Connell succeeds Bishop Scharfenberger, who has led the diocese since 2014
