Coxsackie-Athens cancels the rest of their season.
It's something that you never want to hear when it comes to a scholastic sports program but unfortunately, the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District was forced to cancel the rest of their varsity football season.
The announcement was made yesterday by the school district. The reason that was given for the cancellation of the rest of the season was that the school did not enough student athlete's to meet the participation requirements that are set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
“The decision was not made lightly, but the challenges we are facing this year have made it the most responsible course of action for the well being of our student athletes and program.”
That is part of what the Superintendent wrote in a letter to the district. The full letter can be read by CLICKING HERE
While the district works on the next steps for the football program, the schools coaching staff will provide alternative training to those students that were already a part of the team for the rest of this season.
