If you grew up in or around the Scotia-Glenville area, you've probably enjoyed many meals at the Sky Port Diner on Freeman's Bridge Road. If you want to grab one more, you'll want to head over within the next few weeks as the owners plan on retiring at the end of the year.
The restaurant was originally a hot dog stand knowns as 'Beckers' when it opened. In 1957, John Dewey bought the eatery and transformed into a diner, which is still operated by his daughters Patty, Joanna and Mary Ann. After a long time of running the restaurant, they tell the Daily Gazette that they're ready to settle down.
It’s time to retire. Our last day will be Dec. 31.
As for the diner, there is word a buyer is interested in purchasing the property and turning it into a bakery, although that is not confirmed.
