DMV Inspection Stickers get a New Look in New York State

The next time you get your car inspected, that certification sticker in the lower left of your windshield will look a little different.

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles announced Tuesday that will allow inspection stations transition to a print-on-demand system. In addition, the stickers will be specific to the vehicle they’re placed on instead of the generic multi-colored stickers the DMV supplies to inspection stations.

DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder says the new stickers will be more difficult to counterfeit:

This change is part of our efforts to transform the DMV’s customer service. The stickers will also enhance security by having information about the vehicle printed directly on them.

Some of the new stickers have already been rolled out in the state. The DMV plans to have the new system in place for 2023 and have the old system phased out in 2024.
