Since 1949 only 74 people have held the title of Tulip Queen. It’s an annual coronation that takes place as part of Albany’s famous Tulip Festival – and 2023 will mark its 75th anniversary.
This year’s festival is set to take place May 13th and 14th at Albany’s Washington Park. The event showcases thousands of newly bloomed tulips throughout the park. Dozens of venders and musical acts are also part of the weekend long festivities.
One of the highlights each year is the crowning of the Tulip Queen, who then serve as goodwill ambassadors for the city.
Nominations are now being accepted for Albany’s 2023 Tulip Queen. Nominees must be:
- Albany County Residents
- Between 18-24 years old
- Possess leadership skills
- Have community outreach goals
The winner receives a $5,000 scholarship. The ‘Queens Court’ (runners up), receive $1,500 in scholarship money.
The deadline is April 15, 2023. Nominate Albany’s next Tulip Queen here.
