B95.5, Spectrum News, and the Times Union present the Kid of the Week brought to you by Hannaford Supermarkets...kids in our community inspire us to make healthy choices every day and by the MiSci, Museum of Innovation and Science, in Schenectady.

Each week we spotlight a new kid of the week. There are great kids exhibiting positive behavior and you’ll get to know a new kid every week on B-95.5, in the Times Union, and Live on Time Warner Cable News.

This week's Kid(s) Of The Week is....

I would like to nominate Mrs. Ockerman's 3rd grade class at Pine Bush Elementary School in the Guilderland School District as the Kid(s) of the Week. This month, when most classes are winding down, Mrs. Ockerman's class took on a project - to research and develop a case for a new playground for Pine Bush Elementary. What makes this class so special is that this is no ordinary playground update, this was specifically to make an accessible playground that all students could use, even those with special needs. The students researched, gathered data, collected testimony from students with special needs and identified potential sources for grant funding, etc. for this project. The class then prepared a presentation to show their principal, district facilities manager and PTA leadership. There was not a dry eye in the room. These adults were touched by the compassion of the students and the thoroughness and maturity in their approach to this topic. As a result, the school's community service club will be picking this important project up next year and the PTA plans to discuss it at their first meeting in the fall. The district is listening thanks to the class!
